Dede Griesbauer, is a graduate of Stanford University where she accumulated 10 NCAA All-American honors. As captain of the Stanford swim team, she led the 1992 team to an NCAA Championship. Individually, Dede represented the United States as part of the USA Swimming National Team between 1989 and 1994. She was a gold medalist at the 1989 Pan Pacific Championships and at the 1991 Pan American Games in the 200-meter backstroke. Dede retired from her career in swimming in 1994 and returned to school where she earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked on Wall Street for eight years as an equity trader. Her last role was a vice president at MFS Investment Management in Boston, MA. In March 2005, Dede decided to set aside her Wall Street career and return to a career in sports after just two years of participating in triathlon. In addition to her success in swimming, Dede is also a two-time Ironman winner. Her first win was at Ironman UK, where she set a new course record in the process. Her second win came in 2009 at Ironman Brazil; a race she has placed second in on two other occasions. Dede is a 3-time top-10 finisher in Kona in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2007 and 2009, she was the top American finisher. She has a long list of accomplishments and is one of the most well respected female triathletes in the industry.
At 8:00am, Dede will be talking about race day preparation at Mirror Lake. Topics will include what to eat and drink during race time along with her mind-set leading up to the starting gun. She will also talk about swim pacing and where to position oneself based off of abilities and goals. At 8:25am, the Swim simulation will begin with Dede in which she will lead the participants on a short swim followed by a demonstration on the swim to bike transition. Topics will include what to expect coming out of the water, how to get ready for your ride, how to get ready for your ride and the correct mindset heading out on your bike. At 8:50, Dede will lead a group ride for one loop of the run course. The group will stop at the 6-mile mark to discuss both ride and run pacing and strategy. The ride will then continue back to Mirror Lake. Finally, at 9:45 there will be a Q&A with Dede and INFINIT founder, Michael Folan.
